Meet Melissa

Photographer    Mother    Muse

There are some people who seem to notice the moments the rest of us might miss. The way the light falls at the end of the day. The laughter between poses. The small, fleeting pieces of childhood you wish you could keep forever.

For our second Indie Muse, we’re introducing Melissa, a photographer, mother of two, and creative whose work feels deeply connected to so much of what inspires Indie Blue.

Her journey behind the lens began with motherhood. Her children became her first subjects, her greatest inspiration, and ultimately, the reason she turned a longtime dream into something more.

We caught up with Melissa to talk about motherhood, creativity, building a life around photography, and the beauty she finds along the way.

A Dream that Started with
MOTHERHOOD
Photography was something Melissa had always wanted to pursue, but for a long time, life didn't leave much room for it.

Motherhood changed that. Staying home with her children gave her the opportunity to finally explore something she'd been drawn to for years. She began teaching herself photography, with two very special subjects right in front of her.

“I’m a mom of two, and honestly, motherhood is the entire reason I became a photographer. Before photography, I was working a job that left me feeling pretty stuck and at a really low point in my life. I had always wanted to be a photographer, but I never had the time to really pursue it.

When I became a mom and stayed home with my kids for a while, I finally had the time to dive into photography and teach myself everything I could. What started as something I wanted to do for myself eventually became a business that allowed me to provide for my family while doing something I genuinely love.”

What began as something deeply personal eventually became a way for Melissa to preserve those same fleeting pieces of life for other families, too.
My kids were my very first subjects, my inspiration, and the reason I started in the first place. I love being behind the camera because I get to preserve the little pieces of life that go by way too quickly…and now I get to do that for other families, too.”
MOTHERHOOD
Through Her Lens

Motherhood didn't simply lead Melissa to photography. It continues to shape the way she sees the world on the other side of her camera.

She's less interested in creating something perfectly posed and more interested in capturing what a family actually feels like: the laughter, movement, connection, and even a little bit of chaos.

Motherhood is really at the center of everything I do. My own kids are what made me want to photograph life in the first place, because I know just how quickly they grow and how easy it is to forget the little things.

I think being a mom has made me much more drawn to the real moments…the laughter, the chaos, the way a child naturally interacts with their parents. I want my photos to feel like them, not like they’re trying to be someone else.”
It's a sentiment that feels especially close to the heart of Indie Blue. We believe the most beautiful clothes are the ones that become part of a life being lived in them: the twirling, exploring, hand-holding, celebrating, and all the beautifully imperfect moments in between.

Forever chasing
THE LIGHT
When we asked Melissa where she finds inspiration, her answer began exactly where her photography journey did: with her children.

But picking up a camera also taught her to see beauty in places that might otherwise go unnoticed.

“My kids, without a doubt. They have always been my biggest inspiration.

I also find a lot of beauty in the everyday things…good light (I thrive off of the light), being outside, traveling, our home, and those little moments that probably wouldn’t seem important to anyone else. I think photography has taught me to slow down and actually notice those things.”

— MELISSA

Maybe that's part of the magic of photography. It asks us to pay attention.

To the way the light looks right now. The place you're standing. The people beside you. The seemingly insignificant moments that, one day, might be the ones you wish you could return to most.

Why Melissa is an
INDIE MUSE

Indie Muse was created to celebrate women whose creativity, perspective, and stories inspire us, and Melissa's feels especially at home here.

We love that her creative journey wasn't perfectly mapped out. It grew from motherhood, from a desire to make a change, and from choosing to finally make space for something she'd always wanted to pursue.

We love the way she embraces real connection over perfection. The way her children remain at the heart of her creativity. And the way her work reminds us to slow down enough to notice what's already beautiful.

For a brand inspired by childhood, motherhood, photography, movement, and making a little more magic out of the everyday, we couldn't think of a more fitting Muse.
Welcome to Indie Muse, Melissa.
